Ingenious floor design right out of the bottle at Coca-Cola HBC in Bulgaria

When designing an office space for popular labels like CCHELLENIC and Coca-Cola HBC, the sky is not necessarily the limit. Multinational brands like these come with strong brand identities to which they need to stay true. After all, their corporate identities are what sets them apart from their competitors. The two new office floors in Bulgaria constitute a nice piece of branding, and Mohawk Group’s ‘Creative Spark’ helped really make them fizz.

Brand-new rooms

‘Refresh the world and make a difference’, that’s what the Coca Cola brand stands for. So, when they were planning to ‘refresh’ the office spaces in their Bulgaria branch, they definitely wanted something different. Yet, the selected designs also had to ring true to the company’s unique identity – after all, you don’t serve Fanta in a beer glass. For each meeting room, a distinctive design was chosen in line with one of the company’s consumer brands. The whole look from there on out had to fit accordingly.  

A spark of just the right colour

Architectural Engineer Alex Chelidonopoulos of Roi Giannopoulou architects took part in two ambitious floor projects, which consisted of about 3,400 m² in meeting rooms, individual offices and open-space working positions. “Each space called for a different design, one more playful than the next”, he explains.

He also corroborates the importance of colours: “In the ‘Fantasia’ room of BSO floor, for example, referring to the fruit-flavoured soft drink ‘Fanta’, the primary branding colours are specific shades of orange and blue. The latter, together with complementary brown and grey tints that followed our composition, defined our tile selection. Our selections for the carpet tiles were orange, light grey and light brown in order to fuse brand identity with our design vision.”  

Mohawk Group helps shape the room

It was the design team’s first time working with Mohawk Group. “We had never worked with the brand or its products before. But in close cooperation with the Biokarpet installation team and the support instructions from Mohawk Group, we explored the products’ versatile properties and delivered the desired result”, Alex asserts.

"We were also very satisfied with the clean installation process of Mohawk Group carpet tiles. Shaping ready-made tiles into geometric patterns on site can be challenging and time consuming. However, due to good planning and Mohawk Group’s shaping-friendly materials, this process was less burdensome. Cutting curves into the tiles' edges, which was a large-scale requirement of the project, also proved to be feasible with reasonable effort."

To create a playful carpet layout made up of squares, triangles and circles, the team used a colourful mix of Creative Spark 956, 979, 656 and 611 from the Art Intervention collection. “We are all very happy with the overall result”, says Alex. “The chosen material palette complements our design efforts and gives a fresh look to the Sofia Headquarters. The office design is an extension of the company’s corporate identity, refreshing and sparkling, just like we intended.” 

And what’s more, Mohawk Group has found itself a new fan. “We are glad to have discovered Mohawk Group's products and our collaboration was quite smooth throughout the entire process. Should there be a similar need for flooring in our projects in the future, we will definitely consider reaching out to Mohawk Group again”, Alex concludes.
